ToDrop List

Stop making lists. Start doing things.

The Genesis

  • If your to-do list is longer that one sheet of paper...
  • If instead of doing tasks you are spending time learning new applications for managing them ...
  • If you feel increasing pressure to do things and at the same time you are scared by the amount of them...
Then you have the same problem that I had some time ago. In a nutshell, my to-do lists were getting bigger and bigger and I was focused on setting priorities and was lost just browsing them.

Then I came across this Scott Hanselman's post, he works for Microsoft and he said 'Don't worry, just drop the ball'. He inspired me to create this simple and at the same time revolutionary application: ToDrop list.

The Idea

The ToDrop list is an innovative application for managing your to-do list. It differs from other to-do list applications in keeping your list at a fixed size. What does it mean? Well basically you have a level which corresponds to the size of your to-do list.

If you want to add too many tasks the ToDrop list application will remove one of the old tasks randomly. The idea is that if nothing has happened with this task so far, then apparently it was not so important and it can safely be removed. This way your to-do list will always have the fixed size.

But if the removed task was important after all, you can simply re-add it. But remember that some other task will be removed. This way you will eliminate those less important tasks and at the same time will focus on doing those that actually are important.

The Gain

Installing the ToDrop list application you start from level no 2. That means 2 tasks on your to-do list. This is your current level.

If you are able to actually do those 2 tasks one after another (without removing any) that means, you are able to deal with 2 tasks (with a minor help from the ToDrop list application).

Let's try with 3 tasks then. Your level increases to no 3. But again if you add new task after reaching your limit and you oversize it (level no) then you will have to earn bonus point from the beginning of given level.

This way we are teaching your brain to deal with more and more tasks. Your memory and time management skill improves.

The Success

You may think that the initial limit of 2 to-do tasks is too small? And how about 10? This is my actual level now, and it is still growing. But you are right, at the beginning I had to start over on different levels a few times.

I had to learn how to actually do tasks and not only put new ones on the list and postpone.

Install application

You can now install the ToDrop List application form Google Store.
